REJOINDER ON huhuonline.com PUBLICATION ON APPOINTMENT OF RECTOR OF YABA COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY

The attention of the management of Yaba College of Technology has been drawn to a mischievous publication on huhuonline.com with the headline “Yabatech Rector’s Appointment…Yar’ Adua’s Fake Approval Alleged”.

Alleging irregularities in the appointment of Mrs. M.K. Ladipo, as Rector of Yaba College of Technology.
That the appointment of Mrs. Margaret Kudirat Ladipo did not receive approval from the Presidency

Based on the absurd news story, the management wishes to put the record straight for clarity and public understanding that:

17 candidates were interviewed for the position of Rector by the a Joint Council and Academic Board Selection Board constituted as prescribed by Section 7, Decree 33 of the Federal Polytechnic (Amendment) Act of 1979 on the appointment into the vacant position of Rector of Federal Polytechnics. From the interview Mrs. Margaret Ladipo came first with a score of 86%. The next two candidates scored 72% and 70% respectively.

A report was presented by the College Governing Council to the Honourable Minister of Education recommending the three candidates in order of performance as stipulated in the Polytechnic Act.

A presentation was in turn made to the Presidency by the Honourable Minister of Education in line with due process.

Approval was granted by the Presidency for the appointment of Mrs. M.K. Ladipo as Rector of the college with effect from December 10, 2009. This was conveyed to the appointee and the Governing Council by the Honourable Minister of Education.

The above facts are verifiable at the respective offices which the writer ought to have done before going to bed.

The college wishes to state that before and after Mrs. Ladipo appointment, new Rectors were appointed at Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti, Idah, Bauchi and Oko and the appointments went through the same process.

We urge the public to disregard the publication on huhuonline.com as there is no hue and cry in the college on the appointment.
