Welcome to Survey & Geo-informatics

WELCOME TO SURVEYING AND GEO-INFORMATICS DEPARTMENT.

The department of Surveying & Geo-Informatics started as a unit under the Department of Civil Engineering in 1982/83 Academic Session to run National Diploma in Land Surveying with a student population of 26.  The full time teaching staff members of the department at the inception were six and these were supported by part-time and service lecturers.

The Department became autonomous from the Department of Civil Engineering in 1996.  The students’ enrolment increased progressively over the years and is currently about 100 distributed as follows:  ND 1 – 55, ND II – 45, HND I – 8, HND II – 13.  The carrying capacity for each class is 60.

The department used to be known as Land Surveying Unit at inception and then Land Surveying Department in 1996 when it became a full fledged department.  The name was again changed to department of Surveying and Geoinformatics about 2005 to take into cognizance the change in and addition of courses  reflecting new technological developments in the field of Surveying, Mapping and Information Technology.

The full time staff strength at present is eight (10 no) out of whom four (4 no) are registered surveyors while the remaining (6) members are at different stages of becoming full professionals. Service lecturers are about 12 while the Technical and Administrative Staff are three (3) in number.
