YABATECH RECTOR COMMENDS LASG FOR RETAINING TREE PLANTING PROGRAMME.

Passport The Rector, Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech), Dr. Margaret Ladipo has commended the Lagos State Government (LASG) for retaining the yearly tree planting campaign initiated by the former governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola saying the retention will contribute to the transformation of Lagos into a greener, healthier, safe and orderly megacity. Ladipo, in a speech at the launch of the 2016 Tree Planting Campaign at the Yabatech Centre, Wednesday, regretted that the assault on the Nigerian ecosystem in recent time has been intense. Trees are fell indiscriminately without replacement and this has exposed the environment to erosion and other natural and environmental disasters. She called on all Nigerians to adopt the philosophy of every person planting a tree to attain an environment that is free from pollution, erosion and other natural disasters. The Rector who was represented by the Deputy Rector (ACAD), Mr. Innocent Akhuemonkan congratulated the LASG for partnering with Yabatech on the yearly tree planting programme. This, no doubt, is in recognition of the importance of Yabatech to the success and sustainability of the programme. We share the passion of the LASG on this project, as we acknowledge the benefits inherent in tree planting which includes provision of shade, wind brakes, prevention of flood and desert encroachment, as well as reducing the effect of global warming among others. Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode said the 2016 campaign with the theme, Lend a Hand to Save Tree became imperative because of the peculiarity of the state as a coastal city-state. According to him, the fast growing urban development areas across the state must curtail the uncontrolled felling of trees and ensure all developers adhere to all the town planning and greening regulations. Represented by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, The Governor announced that construction work was at advanced stage at the parks at Shasha in Alimosho and Ikorodu Local Goverment. He emphasised that LASG would enforce tree planting along all new roads being constructed, create more gardens and ensure that all open spaces in Lagos are upgraded. The Governor charge all Lagos residents to support the campaign by planting trees to replenish fell ones as a means of self preservation.

YABATECH DONATES PATROL VAN TO PANTI

Passport

Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) has donated another brand new four- seater patrol van to the Nigerian Police to buoy security of life and property on the campus and oil the partnership between the two organisations.

Handing over the vehicle to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, yesterday, Yabatech Rector, Dr. Margaret Kudirat Ladipo said the gesture was to further boost security on campus and support the Nigerian Police in securing the College.

Yabatech is located in a very hot spot but for your support and camaraderie, it would have been pretty difficult securing this campus in view of its situational circumstances. We thank the Nigerian police for the support in time past. Our appreciation goes to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police and the Inspector General of Police for the assistance in time past.

This is a federal institution and people come in and go out of the College en-masse on daily basis, yet the College is surrounded by hordes of gangsters from every angle. We thank God for the peace we daily have, and we thank the Nigerian Police too for the support they extend to us, trusting that with prayer and your continued support, the campus will be free at all times from anti-social vices, she said.

Receiving the fully air-conditioned vehicle fitted with siren and police head lamp, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID, Panti, Mr. Abiodun Ogidan expressed appreciation to the College on behalf of the IGP, and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni for the gesture.

He said, We are happy and challenged. This is a peculiar gift because this is the first Corporate Social Responsibility gift the new IGP is receiving. We will let him know that Yabatech has done this for us.

He promised on behalf of his team of officers from the SCID to continue to support the College. We assure the Yabatech Management that this good gesture will be reciprocated by ensuring that crime is reduced to the barest minimum and to continue to make Yabatech an institution where everybody can sleep with the two eyes closed in spite of its peculiar circumstance.

Yesterdays gift was the second in six month. The College, having earlier donated a Hilux four-seater jeep to the Sabo Police Station to facilitate round the clock security the College campus.

BEWARE OF FAKE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS.

Passport

Students of Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) should beware of fraudsters offering fake Scholarship awards purportedly for polytechnic students through the Federal Scholarship Board.

Our checks revealed that the fraudsters indulge in sending Short Message Service (SMS) to students asking them (students) to send sundry documents including their account details to certain e-mail address to earn the award.

An excerpt from one of the badly worded messages goes thus:

The Federal Government through the Federal Scholarship Board, Central Area Abuja offers you scholarship award under MDG. You are expected to submit these documents today to process your payment: JAMB Admission Letter, Course registration form, school ID card, passport 2 , WAEC/NECO result. Letter of indigene, Birth certificate and your bank details o scan to  Samuelibibinu@yahoo.com. Call 07010384383 if you are in poly. Thanks.

Yabatech students should note that the Federal Scholarship Board has been in comatose for more than two decades. The need to resuscitate it was tabled before the senate on June 6,2016 by Senator Gbajabiamila from Lagos State.

Students should therefore not be deceived by the pranks of the fraudsters.

It may interest you that should the government intends to offer students scholarship, the award would come through the college and not through third parties.

YABATECH MISSING MONEY: IBIROGBA AND CO TO ACCOUNT FOR 1.6 BILLION NAIRA.

Passport Yabatech Missing Money: Ibirogba and Co to account for N1.6 billion Sacked bursar of Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech), Mr. Olusegun Ibirogba and six others are to account for missing N1.6 billion allegedly stolen from the College coffers between 2008 and 2013. The money, according to a Committee set up by the Management to audit the College Student Account Section of the bursary based on questions raised by Adebayo Arowolo & Co auditing firm found that about N1,682,806,539 was unaccounted for within the period. Erudite accounting specialist and Chairman of the investigation committee, Mr. Joseph Akeju explained that Ibirogba and his cohorts Charles Akhariya, Mrs Onabanjo Olukorode, Azeez Ajewole, Michael Oyenola, Amu Foluke, Egbemi Chinwe and Florence Egbeni jointly carted away both the software and hard copies of records of payment and other records from the Student Account Section of the bursary. Although that made the assignment tedious, but because of the commitment of the committee members, we were able to collect data from the registry on student enrolment, bank reconciliation reports, interview with both bursary and registry staff, we were able to get results. Comparing the actual with the expected earnings between 2008 and 2009, the committee found that the variance in 2008 was N108, 393,665. The variance for 2009 was N119,807,030 and the figures continued to increase to N656,376,570 in 2013, he said. Akeju blamed the theft of huge sums of money from the bursary during the period covered by the investigation when Ibirogba and Akharayi were bursar and head of student section respectively on the throwing up of strangers into the bursary unit to boss their seniors and rampage the system, a serious infringement of the system. Ibirogba who was brought in from the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, and became a bursar a few months before the incumbent rector assumed office was allegedly given accelerated promotion, and allowed to bring into the system, six other accountants from his former institution. These were the people he used to circumvent the system and turned the Student Accounts Section to his fiefdom between 2008 and 2013. According to the financial expert, Ibirogba used his hirelings to block the control system and circumvent the audit control mechanism thereby allowing leakage in the revenue accruing to the College. Normal account reconciliation became nonexistent as the Student Accounts Section became a sacred cow where nobody dare ventured contrary to Section 2501 and 2502 of the Financial Regulation of 2009. Akeju described what happened between 2008 and 2013 as a period of locust ravage in the College. There were no records of students payment in any guise, no record of payment for hostel, bank records were concealed as the section operated its own cash book, no record of money collected through the Unified Matriculation Examination and bank records were not detailed. Worse still, Akharayi refused to hand over to his successor in office which is tantamount to annihilation of record and an attempt to cover up wrong doings. Receiving the report, Yabatech Rector, Dr. Margaret Kudirat Ladipo expressed dismay at the level of fraud allegedly perpetuated by the sacked bursar. It is evidently clear now that it is corruption fighting back as we make efforts to clear the ugly past left in the College by fraudsters thrusting themselves up as Whistle blowers it is so sad. I became suspicious of the sanity of records emanating from the bursary when Ibirogba turned himself into a tin god and circumvented the system to enrich himself and his cohorts. Each time questions were asked, he will bring up an order that empowered only him to know the nitty gritty of the bursary. Unknown to anyone, he had a game plan up his sleeves. Ladipo said all efforts would be made to retrieve every kobo stolen by the group through lawful means. This is an eye opener that it was corruption that fought the College almost to a standstill these past few years. It is pertinent to mention that Ibirogba who joined the College in 2006 and became a bursar through irregular promotions has a case to answer with the police for using Edla Petrochemical Limited, a company purportedly belonging to Lady (Chief) Edith Ezeala and her husband, Chief Lambert and three other companies for fraudulent oil deals. With the support of a splinter group of the Civil Liberties Organisation, led by a reporter with the Source Magazine, Igho Akherega, who is Ibirogbas hatchet man and his paid media houses, Ibirogba has continued to blackmail the College and the Management over imaginary, monumental fraud until the recent audit report fingered him as the main man.

The Rector, Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech), Dr. Margaret Kudirat Ladipo has pledged that teachers education shall remain high priority in the College planning and development.

Addressing matriculating 100 and 200 levels degree students of the School of Technical Education (STE) run in affiliation with the University of Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka, Ladipo assured the matriculant that the College will continue to provide conducive learning environment for its students.

She said, We have a commitment to equip you with the requisite skills and competencies that would empower you to contribute your quota to the development efforts of this country.

We do expect maximum cooperation from you as students to enable us accomplish the set objectives for which the STE was established.

The rector charged the matriculants to consider themselves fortunate for the dual opportunity of undergoing their programmes at the first indigenous university in Nigeria, UNN, Nsukka in collaboration with the cradle of higher learning in Nigeria, Yabatech.

Our security network has been further enhanced to tackle the menace of cultism and other social vices coupled with our added leverage in skills development through our flexible skills development potentials.

Speaking in same vein, the Vice Chancellor, UNN, Prof Benjamin Ozumba charged the matriculants to guard against situations that allow the society to situate them as negative personalities.

One of the major results of the stimulation of your intellectual life that occurs in the College is the shrinking of your spiritual life. Sometimes, students get so confused with reconciling their classroom activities with the clashing of so many faiths that their spiritual live begins to weaken tremendously.
