Our goal is to strengthen Unity and tolerance – Ladipo

Dr. (Mrs.) Margert Kudirat Ibiyeye Ladipo the rector, Yaba College of Technology has said one of her cardinal goals since assuming the post of chief executive of the institution is to promote unity, cohesion and mutual understanding among the members of the institution’s community as a means of creating a conducive atmosphere for transformational growth. The challenge before any serious administration she said must be how to lift the standard of education which had been her priority in the last two years.

This was revealed at the interactive family meeting between the management and members of staff of Yaba College of Technology recently. She declared that her stage of administration has always maintained an open door policy.

According to her, “within the last two years we have voted huge resources for staff development. This is in line with our firm belief that regular training improves the individual’s knowledge base. I am happy to note that many of our staff are presently studying for their masters and PhD degrees. This has been yielding a positive results as the number of staff with PhD has increased impressively in the last two year ‘’I want to assure the staff that management will continue to encourage them to succeed in this endeavour.

To foster staff and students welfare the rector stated that the continuing challenges of office and classroom constraints will soon be a thing of the past in that before end of the first quarter of this year, the 7 storey building and school of science building constructed through TETFUND intervention would be commissioned for use by staff and students.

These are in addition to the CED building Foundry building of the school of Engineering and the security office already commissioned for the same propose; she added.

Also speaking further, Ladipo said that plans are in the pipeline to construct a 1,300 capacity auditorium and a complex for School of Technology. The 1,300 capacity auditorium when completed will house a gallery’s and a 4 floor building for staff offices with studios and classrooms attached to it.

Rehabilitation of the students hostels has also been completed for students convenience and to enhance their academic and social well being in the college.

The rector also revealed that the Academic Planning Unit (APU) was set up in line with management decision to reposition academic activities in the college.

The role of the academic planning unit in any institution is key to the development of academic programmes, she ascerted. The rector informed staff that an Anti-corruption & Transparency unit had been set up in line with the Federal government directive.

The unit, the rector said, is expected amongst other things to identify and curb corrupt practices and procedures. It will also receive and investigate complaints of corruption from the college community and carry out enlightenment campaigns for staff

She solicited for the support of every staff on the up-coming accreditation exercise to ensure that all programmes scale the accreditation hurdle.
