The federal government through the Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyat
Ahmed Rufai has approved the appointment of two new deputy rectors for Yaba
College of Technology.
They are Dr Morouf Adebakin as Deputy Rector, Administration and Mr.
Innocent Akhuemonkhan as Deputy Rector, Academic.
Dr. Moruf Adebakin until his appointment was the Director, Yabatech Consult, the Business/Consultancy arm of the College, a position he attained in 2010, having served as the Coordinator of programmes in the unit from 2005.
He joined the service of Yaba College of Technology as Lecturer III in 1993 and
rose through the ranks to become a Chief Lecturer in January 2011.
He graduated from the University of Ibadan in 1988 with a BSc in Psychology and later the University of Lagos with MSc Psychology and PhD Organisational Behaviour in 1990 and 2011 respectively.
Dr. Adebakin is an erudite scholar with an astute business sense who seamlessly combines his academic work with the management of the business arm of the college. He has over 25 publications to his name and edited the first and second editions of Yaba Journal of Management Studies.
He was the first Information Technology Officer to be appointed for the School of Management and Business Studies and he has also served on numerous College Committees.
Having once worked in the College in 1983 as a Clerical Officer before academically improving himself and coming back as Lecturer III in 1993, Dr. Adebakin represents a symbol of the dream of the up and coming generation, that with hard work, focus and determination, one can rise to the peak of one’s career.
Dr. Adebakin is poised to introduce a breath of fresh air into the College Administration and deploy his dexterity in organizational management as well as his academic and business management skills to complement the efforts of the present administration, as the College faces the challenges of an increasingly complex and rapidly evolving global operating environment
In the same vein, the new Deputy Rector, Academic, Mr. Innocent Akhuemonkhan until his appointment was a Chief Lecturer and Pioneer Director, Academic Planning Unit of the College.
He joined the service of Yaba College of Technology as a Lecturer II in 1981, and rose to the position of Chief Lecturer in the Department of Food Technology in January 1999. He was Head of Department of Food Technology from 1991 to 1997.
He obtained his B.Sc. Honours Upper Division, in Biochemistry (1976) and M.Sc. Food Technology (1981), at the University of Ibadan. He is an active member of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology where he had served as Chapter Chairman and National Vice President, and was elected a Fellow of the Institute in 1999.
He was also Pioneer Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship Development in the College, from 2003 -2009.
He has participated in several international and local training programmes, and served on numerous College/School committees, many, in the position of Chairman.
He has also served as Chairman or member of National Board of Technical Education (NBTE) Accreditation Panels, Critique Workshops and Fact Finding Committees on Visitation and many other national assignments. He has been external examiner to the Dept. of Food Technology to some Polytechnics in the South West of Nigeria.
During his sabbatical leave in Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, he established and headed, the Institution’s Entrepreneurship Study Centre.
Mr Akhuemonkhan is a resourceful and vastly experienced staff which was demonstrated further during his appointment as Director of Academic Planning in 2011 having made positive impact in the academic space of the College during the present administration within such a short time.
His appointment is of high point at a time the College is moving from a phase of academic consolidation to a period of rapid academic development and transformation to which his knowledge and vast experience will be invaluable in achieving this purpose.
