WELCOME TO SCHOOL OF LIBERAL STUDIES

The School of Liberal Studies is an offshoot of the former School of Management and Business Studies (SMBS). Its story began in 2004, when the Management carved out the former General Studies Department from the School of Management and Business Studies (SMBS).

Right from its inception, considering the numerous competencies and specializations of the highly qualified lecturers, the School of Liberal Studies (SLS) was carved into a multidisciplinary School to house the Departments of Social Sciences, Mass Communication and Languages. Lecturers are posted from the school to give essential and mandatory complementary teaching services to the other host departments in order that students might meet basic requirements for graduation in their various professions.

This practice and orientation of service has exposed lecturers of the School of Liberal Studies to maximum pressure of bearing heavy teaching loads every semester in trying to cater for the needs of all the departments in the College. This is why all the students of the College are students of School of Liberal studies without prejudice to the fact that they graduate in other professions/disciplines. Thus, SLS, since its creation has continued to be the mother of all schools and departments just as its forerunner, the General Studies Department.

In addition, to the service orientation, the SLS is the home of the Mass Communication Department where students are trained by highly experienced journalists, broadcasters, editors, communicators and press veterans. The Department is in the process of establishing a demonstration student-radio station.
