History of the School

The School of Technical Education (STE) formerly Technical Teacher Training Programme (TTTP) was designed by the Federal Ministry of Education to provide the needed manpower in the area of primary, Technical and secondary levels of the National Education System.

The Technical Teacher Training Programme started in Yaba College of Technology during the 1992/1993 academic session for the award of B.Sc.(Ed) degree in Technical and Vocational Education in affiliation with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.


The School was known as Technical Teacher Training Programme until 2009/2010 academic session when it changed to the School of Technical Education.


The Programme has the approval and accreditation of the National Universities Commission (NUC).It was set up to train and retrain adults with reflective technical mature minds sponsored by the Governments as vocational teachers who would improve the technical manpower needs of Nigeria.


Preamble


With a robust partnering relationship between the College and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) it has become imperative to widen the frontiers of research, improve and expand programmes run by the School of Technical Education (STE). It is interesting to note that the School runs (10) degree programmes fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).


Vision of School of Technical Education (STE)

?The School has contributed to the advancement of the intellectual and human resource capacity of the nation in no small measure through teacher training and retraining. It also believes that the quality of Education and life in general depend on the quality of the teacher in the classroom. Hence, Quality and Effectiveness are the mission of School of Technical Education (STE).


Objectives

In accordance with the National Policy on Education (2013) the objectives of the School of Technical Education are as follows:-

1. To produce highly motivated, conscientious and efficient classroom teachers for all levels of the educational system;


2. Further encourage the spirit of enquiry and creativity in teachers;


3. Help teachers fit into the social life of the community and the society at large and enhance their commitment to national goals;


4. Provide teachers with the intellectual and professional background adequate for their assignment and to make them adaptable to changing situations; and


5. Enhance teachers commitment to the teaching profession.

?The modes of Entering since inception at Technical Teacher Training Programme (TTTP) are:-


1. A 3 Year Degree Programme for Direct Entry candidates (ND, NCE, HND)


 A 4 Year Degree Programme for JAMB candidates (SSCE/NECO with five O level credit and six at two sittings.


The programmes are geared towards imparting technical knowledge and vocational skills to students and thereby contributing to the economic development of Nigeria.


Consequently, the College  affiliation for the School of Technical Education Programmes with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka for the award of B.Sc. (Ed.) Degree.

Number of Graduates Turned out

On the average,from 1997 till date, the School has turned out about six thousand (6,000) graduates from various departments except Educational Foundations which is a servicing Department as mentioned above.

The staff strength of the School comprises of twenty six (26) academic and sixteen (16) non teaching (both senior and junior).
