In 1960/61, a stenography course was introduced in the Department of Commerce. The course prepared students for the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) examinations. In the 1967 – 1968 school year, a two-year full time course commenced in Office Arts with a pre-requisite of West Africa School Certificate and at least a Pass in English. That same year, a Personal Secretary’s Course was offered at the Advanced Level. A two-year Diploma course in Secretarial Studies commenced during the 1970/1971 session; and in 1977/78 session, the Higher National Diploma course was introduced. The Higher National Diploma became a two-year programme in 1986/87 session. Bilingual Secretarial Studies programme (French Option) was introduced in 1992/1993 session. The Secretarial Studies Department was changed to Office Technology and Management in 2008/2009 session. Office Technology and Management is offered in both Full Time and Part Time Programmes.
OBJECTIVES
1. To expose students at the ND and HND levels to courses in their special area such as Monolingual and Bilingual as well as courses in general education and to equip students with effective work competencies and socio-psychological work skills which are essential in everyday interactions with others.
2. To produce well qualified and competent ND and HND graduates of Office Technology and Management both in English and French and to equip students with technology and office skills for employment in various fields of Endeavour.
3. To ensure that the diplomats exhibit adequate knowledge, skills and technical know-how to work effectively and efficiently in the technological and automated office of today.
4. To train people to become highly skilled and proficient in technology and management studies in order to become self-reliant and adequately equipped with entrepreneurial knowledge to meet the developmental needs of the nation.
5. To prepare ambitious students for further academic pursuits.
