The Department of food Technology at Yaba College of Technology established in 1981 is committed to providing qualitative research and TVET education in Food Technology at the National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) to ensure sustainable food production of wholesome safe and Nutritious foods. Our training and linkages with the industry provides effective opportunities to train students with sterling leadership qualities and life-long skills that make our graduates proficient in understanding of chemical, biotic/abiotic factors, physical, nutritional, functional, sensory, and engineering properties of foods.  Training provided prepares our graduate for opportunities in various sectors of the economy globally in the food and Agro allied industries, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), health sector, academia, research institutes and government. Our curriculum is designed to promote global food and nutrition security in all segments of the food chain. In line with the objectives of our institution, we strive to be among the best tertiary institutions for training of Food Science and Technology in Nigeria.



HISTORY



The Department of Food Technology at Yaba College of Technology has been in existence with the first set of students admitted for National Diploma in 1981. The training is designed to train students with sterling leadership qualities who are worthy in learning and character. Yaba College of Technology being the first tertiary institution in Nigeria established in 1947 prides itself in excellent teaching, research, and entrepreneurial education. Our National and Higher National Diploma graduates are actively involved in different sectors of the global economy, including but not limited to the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FCMG) industry, The Academia, Research institutes, Small and Medium Scale Food industries, Consulting and Post-harvest and Agro- Allied Industries. The focus on entrepreneurial training makes our graduates self-reliant and stand out in the market place. The Department is blessed with many competent and experienced Lecturers, Technologists and Non-academic staff in various areas of specializations of Food Technology. The Department has linkages with the Industry with Companies like Four Mills of Nigeria, Flour Miller’s association of Nigeria and flavor and Fragrance company Ferminich and is still open to collaborations with other organizations locally and internationally. We hope to maintain our lead in promoting safe, wholesome and nutritious foods by training highly motivated graduates in all aspects of the food chain.
