Public Administration department is one of the departments under the school of management and business studies (SMBS) in Yaba College of Technology. The department was established on December, 2014 after a successful accreditation of the new department from the NBTC Programme Goal: Full Time/Part Time. The National Diploma in Public Administration is designed to produce middle level manpower required for the running of efficient and effective administration in the public service and private sector. Programme Objectives.



It is expected that a diplomate of this Programme should be able to:-



i. Apply the theories and practices of Public Administration



ii. Analyse the nature and operations of the machinery of government.



iii. Analyse the nature and scope of inter-governmental relations.



iv. Apply the basic principle in the Management of Public Enterprises.



v. Examine the structure and function of Local Government.



vi. Identify management problems at the appropriate level, analyse them and design strategies to solve them.



vii. Apply the basic principles of Financial Management.



viii. Mobilize small communities or group of Individual for the preparation of small scale business effectively and profitably.



ix. Apply the basic principle of law in official relationship and transaction.



x. Carry out elementary application of the computer in processing data/ information.



xi. Run a small administration/personnel unit in any organization with minimum supervision of superior officer. Entry Requirement for the programme COURSE: National Diploma in Public Administration



GENERAL REQUIREMENT:



(1) 5 Credit pass in WASCE, GCE, SSCE, or NECO at not more than two (2) sittings.



COMPULSORY CREDITS: A Credit pass in English Language, Mathematics, Government/History and two (2) subjects from any of the following: Economics, Geography, Account, Financial Management, Commerce, Literature in English, Civic Education and Agric. Science/Biology/Physics/Chemistry JAMB Requirements:



CORE COURSE: English Language, Mathematics Government/History and any other subject from: Economics, Commerce, Principle of Account, Civic Education Geography and so on.



LOCATION: YABA, LAGOS.



Task Inventory Diploma Programme in Public Administration is structured to run for two (2) academic sessions of two (4) semesters, each of class room and workshop activities in the institution and three(3) to four (4) months of supervised industrial work experience scheme (SIWES) in the relevant organization, usually at the second session. Project: project work is an integral part of the National Diploma Curriculum.



The student will carry out an original research project in the field of public administration to qualify for the award of National Diploma (ND) Certificate. Evaluation: for purpose of awarding the National Diploma in Public Administration, the student?s work shall include examinations, project, course work ( tests, quizzes, practical etc) and industrial attachment. The weighting or each of the components shall be as prescribed by the National Board for Technical Education, and the institution running the programme. Certification: The National Diploma (ND) in Public Administration shall be awarded only to persons who have satisfied all conditions for the award of the award of the certificate as laid down by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and the institution in which the programme is offered. Job Opportunities: There is abundant job opportunities of the programme (i.e. Public Administration holders) in both Public Sector and Private Sector establishment, in administrative capacity.
