Yabatech Honours 2018/2019 Retirees

The Management of Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) recently organized a befitting sent forth ceremony for distinguished members of staff who retired from service in the year 2018 and 2019 respectively for their meritorious service to the College.

The event which was first of its kind in the history of the institution was chaired by the former Rector of the College, Pa. G.M. Okufi, in his speech he applauded the Management for appreciating the retired staff and for acknowledging their valuable contributions to the progress, growth and development of the College.

He commended the Rector, Engr. Obafemi Omokungbe for the huge work of thorough renovation of dilapidated buildings in the College and for turning Yabatech to a small London. He was quoted as saying “Some come to a place and left it better than the way they met it, while some degraded it further.”

The College was agog with the presence of the 43 retirees together with their families and well wishers; they were all radiating in joy and full of energy.

Omokungbe in his welcome remark appreciated the retirees for their commendable services during their time in the service of the College. He was delighted seeing them all in good health, he noted that to everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven, so in every organization just as appointment has a commencement date, so also there must be an exit date.

He noted that retirement is a thing of joy and should be celebrated, it is an exciting time in a person’s life, it is a time for reflection and a time to look forward and spend more time with loved ones.

He stated that it is a well deserved honour to celebrate the retirees having spent the best of their productive life in Yabatech. The College therefore thought it befitting to do this in midst of their loved ones who had been a pillar of support to them while they worked tirelessly to lift the glory of the College. The entire Yabatech community is indeed grateful to them.

According to him, “I congratulate all our retirees for a successful career in the College. We are here today to show our sincere appreciation for your valuable contributions to the College community, and by extension our nation Nigeria. We thank you immensely for your immensurable contributions to the development of this great institution. I have the privilege of working closely with some of them and I wish to commend their passion, dedication, loyalty and commitment. You have inspired us to always stay passionate and be the best. We thank you for the experiences, knowledge and the positive attributes you passed on to those of us left behind. We are confident all these will continue to help us to improve in our career. We assure you that your legacy will never be forgotten in Yabatech anytime soon. We welcome you to the next stage of life where everyday is weekend. With sincere heart and prayers of all present here today, I wish you a contented, joyous and happy retirement life, good health, sound mind, good luck and long life.”

The Acting Medical Director of the College, Dr. Tunde Nubi charged the retirees to pay adequate attention to their health, because health is wealth. He disclosed all the necessary tips to good health, he concluded by saying “Don’t use all your health to chase after wealth, only to spend all your wealth later to regain your health.”

The College gave the retirees a plague each in recognition and appreciation of their services. Likewise, Women in Technical Education (WITED) gave their retired members befitting gift items. The retirees wined and dined with their families, and it was a worthwhile sent forth party that will remain indelible in their hearts. They thanked the Management for the honour bestowed on them, Engr. Benjamin Omokwale, former Deputy Rector Academics who spoke on their behalf.
