Yabatech Receives N500,000 Grant As N.i.c 2.0 Winner

Organizer of the NIMECHE, Innovative Challenge (NIC) 2.0, the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineering (NIMECHE) has presented to Yaba College of Technology, a sum of N500,000 grants as the winner of the 2018 edition of the challenge.

The challenge is an engineering development programme dedicated to deepening and building the capacity of mechanical engineering students in the area of home grown innovative solutions in agriculture, healthcare and sanitation, automation and sustainable energy as well as to develop an effective system of knowledge sharing between Nigerian and Ghanaian mechanical engineers.
The grant was presented to the Rector of the institution, Engr. Femi Omokungbe on behalf of the students; Famuyiwa Peter, Adewale Jerry, HamzatRidwan and OgbaMicheal who represented the College to compete with other mechanical engineering students from 21 universities across Nigeria and Ghana.

Team YABATECH led by Hamzat produced a yam pounding machine as the best innovation out of the 30 innovations presented at the contest.

NIMECHE, a mechanical division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE is a premier institution for professional development, knowledge acquisition and dissemination of mechanical engineering and allied disciplines in Nigeria.
Chairman N.I.C, Engr. AkintundeZedomi stated that support on every human development as the motive behind the innovative challenge stressing that today is not about getting employment but creating employment. My passion is to bring technology to Nigeria by creating an avenue for young engineers to showcase their innovations, he added.
Zedomi assured that every innovation will be mass reproduced to meet global standards so as to have a place in the competitive market.

The Rector, YABATECH, Engr. Femi Omokungbe who also belongs to NSE, reiterated his commitment to the development of the institution noted that the grant will be used for mass production of the yam pounding machine.
